Multi-Family Housing
Senior Project
2023
Project Brief
Students will choose a project topic that is interesting to them. Research from case studies, documents, interviews, and tours will be used to help guide their design. Based on their findings, students will then determine the which spaces that will be important to their design and what will be required in each space. Students will also be required to incorporate five functional, aesthetic, and sustainability goals into their design. ADA should also be taken into consideration.
Concept Statement
Tying to the industries of the past, brick, metal, and stone will be used throughout the Green Bush Apartment common spaces. To contrast the industrial feel, lighter paints will be used to create a warmer and inviting environment. A fireplace will be located near the entrance to also give a warm welcome to guests and residents. Common spaces and corridors will use acoustic tiles and carpeting to keep noise levels down in the units. The individual units will have a more modern feel while tying the colors of the general spaces to allow residents to make the space their own.
Bath and Body Retail Space
2022
Project Brief
Using the plan provided, students will design a brick and mortar retail space within a mall leasehold space. Only the retail floor space will be designed. Within the design, students must include a cash wrap (3' W min) (must be ADA compliant, well-designed circulation, and reinforcing of the brand identity.)
Concept Statement
Whispering Willow offers high-quality bath and body products at an affordable price for young adults. The brand uses elegant, floral, and feminine influences to create an overall Parisian chic style. Whispering Willow will also create a sense of calmness through the use of neutral and muted colors. These colors will bring in customers as it reminds consumers of the brand’s focus on safe and healthy body care.
Tapas and Cocktail Bar
2022
Project Brief
The client has hired you to verify the suitability of the site depicted in the plan provided for use as a restaurant. They have asked that you develop a preliminary design that meets the requirements listed and that includes a preliminary material
palette. Based upon your findings, the client may sign a lease for the building or elect to review another local building that might better suit their needs. The design should focus on a lounge/bar with a light meal service. The atmosphere/aesthetic must reflect the concept of “cocktail lounge” but can do so in a contemporary manner. The menu and concept should be based on at least one item found from the archives department.
Concept Statement
With tapas originating in Spain, this tapas and cocktail bar will use the Spanish style to give customers the opportunity to have a traditional Spanish experience. The space will bring in warm colors that can be commonly found throughout Spain to bring in the culture and landscape of this beautiful country. Using these warm colors will allow customers to feel welcome and comfortable when socializing with friends and family within the space. Another part of the Spanish style that will be brought in is the Spanish tiles. These tiles bring color to the space while adding visual interest to the bar area. Having these tiles throughout will help bring the traditions and origins of Spanish style into the space.
YOUmedia Library
2021
Project Brief
YOUmedia has decided to expand its digital learning program to locations throughout the Midwest. You have been hired by YOUmedia to design a teen space focused on digital learning at one of the Milwaukee Public Library locations. The library has identified approximately 3000 SF of space on the second floor that will be the future home for this project. This is a space where teens can hang out, get help with homework, experiment with design software in a range of disciplines, record music, and participate in a variety of digital media activities and workshops.
Concept Statement
The new teen space in the Milwaukee Public Library is a space where teens can work on homework, hang out, or explore their interests. The library has a variety of things available to the teens including: digital workshops, recording booths, a café, study spaces, and collaboration. The bright colors found throughout the space will inspire teens to explore passions and creativity. Teens will feel welcomed into this fun new space that will allow them to grow individually, but also through interactions with others and the space around them.
